My husband %26amp; kids like noodles and rice so when we are having chicken, beef stew, pork chops or really anything we have these as a side with a vegetable. We usually buy those quick packages of flavored rice or noodles. Is there a way to make something like that but healthier?? Those packages are processed and full of salt!!! Thanks....Easy rice or noodle side dish recipes???
This is really hokey, but one of our favorite side dishes is hot cooked shell noodles tossed with a couple spoonfuls of cottage cheese. The shells work great because the curds get stuck inside, but you could use egg noodles or bowties too.
You could also make pasta salad using fat free Italian dressing. Toss twisty noodles with the dressing and add diced carrots, green and red peppers and sliced black olives.Easy rice or noodle side dish recipes???
Broccoli Noodle Side Dish
INGREDIENTS
6 cups uncooked wide noodles
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup olive oil
4 cups broccoli florets
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
Cook noodles according to package directions. Meanwhile, in skillet, saute minced garlic in oil until tender. Add broccoli; saute for 4 minutes or until crisp-tender. Add the mushrooms, thyme, pepper and salt; saute for 2-3 minutes. Drain the noodles and add to the broccoli mixture. Stir gently over low heat until heated through.
You can make white rice, but substitute salad dressing for some of the water when you make it ..... I like hot pasta tossed with just a little olive oil, oregano, garlic powder and whatever veggies I have on hand. You can sprinkle with Parmesan cheese too
yes, Hawaiian fried rice. No fats too. Ingredients include cooked brown rice, pineapples, cooked garbanzos (chick peas), cubed red/green bell pepper, tuna flakes and a dash of salt/sugar/black pepper. Stir fry over hot wok or non-stick pan.
I am sure there is a way, but I eat the quick packages, I figure if I live long enough for salt to kill me, then thats ok by me.
We enjoy white rice prepared in the Microwave with Velveeta cheese melted throughout. It's quick and easy to prepare.
Use Wheat noodles and I can't believe it's not butter, add some seasoning and wahlah!
